Shayla Barnes-Holloway is a self-proclaimed cake snob, obsessed with all things sweet, beautiful and delicious.  In 2010, Shayla left her demanding career in the education sector to become supermom to her four little ones.  Her very first mission was planning a fabulous birthday party for her sons, Josef and Rhys.  In her quest to find the perfect birthday cake, she stumbled upon the world of cake artistry and the rest is history.

She is now the owner and lead cake artist of The Buttercreamery Sweets Boutique, a custom cake and confection studio located in sunny Mobile, AL.  Shayla is passionate about creating cakes and desserts that are as pleasing to the palette as they are to the eye, baking cakes from scratch using the recipes and techniques passed down from her grandmother and aunt.  Since 2011, she has grown The Buttercreamery from a little known cupcake business into a well established couture boutique specializing in lavish wedding cakes, gravity defying three dimensional sculpted cakes and extravagant desserts.

In 2017, Shayla combined everything she’d learned baking and decorating and her 12 years of experience in education to create Buttercreamery Bakeology, a series of classes focused on teaching baking and decorating skills.  Her classes are highly sought after from experienced bakers to novices looking to create a delicious dessert for their next family gathering.  Shayla has served as a prestigious judge for Johnson & Wales University’s Literary Baking Competition and has been a preferred internship choice for students attending its culinary school in South Florida.  Additionally, Shayla developed a series of baking classes for children that incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM).

The Buttercreamery cakes and desserts are a favorite among celebrities and socialites like, Lebron & Savannah James, Rick Ross, Udonis & Faith Haslem, DJ Khaled, Sloane Stephens and Dwyane Wade just to name a few.  Shayla has collaborated with celebrity chefs Amaris Jones and Roblé Ali plus she has worked with organizations like Off The Field (NFL Players’ Wives Association) and is a featured cake artist for Carnival Cruise Lines, American Express and The Miami Open.  Shayla's work has been showcased in numerous blogs, websites and publications such as The Knot, Southern Bride, Ebony, Essence, Perfete and Travel Noire.  Additionally, Shayla’s talent and engaging personality can be seen in action on popular baking shows Cake Hunters (The Cooking Channel), Sugar Rush (Netflix) and Halloween Wars (Food Network).

When not elbow deep in buttercream, Shayla enjoys outings with her husband, four children and adorable granddaughter, Sage.  You can check out her creations throughout social media as TheButtercreamery.
